What is AWS Class ER5356?
AWS Class ER5356 is an aluminum-magnesium (Al-Mg) welding wire commonly used for joining 5xxx series aluminum alloys. Its typical chemical composition includes 5% magnesium (Mg) with trace amounts of manganese (Mn), silicon (Si), and iron (Fe), providing excellent corrosion resistance. Mechanically, ER5356 offers a tensile strength of approximately 210–250 MPa and a yield strength around 130–160 MPa, with elongation up to 12–15%. This combination ensures strong, ductile welds suitable for marine, automotive, and structural applications. Its excellent resistance to cracking and good corrosion performance make it ideal for demanding environments.
