What is AWS Class ER420 MIG and TIG Filler Metal ?

AWS Class ER420 MIG and TIG filler welding wire and rod are martensitic stainless steel alloys that are mostly 12 -14% Chromium, 0.15-0.40% Carbon, less than 1.0% Manganese, less than 1.0% Silicon and trace levels of Nickel, Phosphorus and Sulfur. These fillers are very hard and wear resistant when subjected to heat treatment. Mechanical properties are of typical tensile strength of about 700 Mpa (100 ksi), of about 500 Mpa (73 ksi) yield strength, of about 15 per cent elongation, and of Brinell hardness 250350 HB, which provides tough and durable welds in the severe service environment.
